KORBUT FLIP
KAIROS
31.01.-22.02.2025
Opening: 31 January Friday, 18.00-20.00
KAIROS is proud to present the exhibition ‘Korput Flip’ between January 31 to February 22, 2025 in which 11 artists focus on contemporary stories that push the boundaries of the body and mind.Olga Korbut's Korbut Flip at the 1972 Munich Olympics, dubbed the 'Dead Loop', is remembered as an act of courage that transcends the limits of the body. Yet, this audacity was not merely a physical triumph but a stark illustration of how a young body could be politicized. Executed on the uneven bars, this groundbreaking move stood as a manifesto for surpassing physical boundaries. Are the moments when the body and creativity reach their peak acts of freedom, or are they stages for power? As Susan Sontag observed, “Every performance is a spectacle, but every spectacle is a battlefield.” Athletes and artists, often stripped of their autonomy, become warriors in these battles. Their creativity and physical effort are subsumed into the collective will of the system. Censorship and propaganda are the sharpest tools wielded by this will: decisions about what is shown and what is obscured delineate the boundaries of power.Korbut Flip brings together the works of artists to reflect on contemporary narratives where the boundaries of the body and mind are pushed to their extremes. In an era where the lines of truth blur, it invites us to witness how artists meticulously plan their own “Dead Loops”. “Korbut Flip” exhibition can be visited between January 31 - February 22, 2025 from Tuesday to Saturday between 12.00-19.00.
