CAN PEKDEMÄ°R
Can Pekdemir (b.1982) works and lives in Istanbul. From 2006 to 2012, he was a full time professor in Visual Communication Design Department at Istanbul Bilgi University.
He is currently teaching as a part time instructor at BahçeÅŸehir University. His work focuses on reconstructing and deforming bodies, either by altering the physical conditions in which the entity exists, or treating them as an experiment while reshaping the systems and documenting the evolving process over time. As humans and other living forms share the common form of bodies, organs, skeletons and muscular systems, we inherently build a relationship with the environmental conditions that surrounds us. Humans being surrounded by physical factors such as gravity, pressure and temperature are part of such adaptation process as well. Pekdemir's method becomes observing and documenting the deformation of bodily forms. He also approaches the conditions of physical abnormality by trying to observe how the surface anatomy will react, resist and reshape while the inner systems such as muscular, skeletal, tissue will behave differently.
